How have been your last big tour ? I guess it was the biggest tour ever for the band. You traveled through eighteen countries if i do remember correctly…(yes, i counted)!
Chris: It certainly was the biggest tour of our lives, for various reasons. It felt very strange playing in a lot of these bigger venues. The whole thing seems so unlikely. But, anyway, it was a pretty great tour. This past year or so we went to a lot of countries we had never been to before (Mexico, Russia, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, etc). I will say that we’re glad the touring is over for awhile. It’s nice to be back at home.
And, during this tour, you played some old songs like « Remember me as a time of day » or a song from « The Rescue », called « Day 6″…I think it was a nice idea…
Chris: We just wanted to try and play some different songs. We’ve been playing a lot of the same songs over and over again for years and we thought it would be nice changing it up a bit. I think Magic Hours and Remember Me worked really well. Day 6, not so much. We just couldn’t pull it off live very well. So that one only showed up a couple of times.
Do you feel more in stress now because a lot more of people are waiting for your albums, your tour… etc…? How do you manage this ?
Chris: I suppose we do feel pressure more now, both when we play live and when we work on new songs, but its not too bad. Certainly nothing worth complaining about. We’re some of the luckiest people on the planet. It’s strange to think that there are people waiting to hear whatever it is were working on. But I think most of the pressure is self imposed. We’re pretty harsh critics of our own stuff. I really like our last record but it sort of felt like a step sideways as opposed to a step forward, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but we’re all itching to take a step forward again.
It seems that a lot of people discovered Explosions In The Sky with your last album « All of a Sudden, I Miss Everyone »…How can you explain that? Why not before ?
Chris: I don’t know. It seems more like its been a gradual build over several years. There was certainly a lot more press for this record and we were on TV shows and stuff like that, but it still felt like this past year was just the outcome of the slow build.
I heard on the net, that you wrote and recorded a song specifically for a movie. The song’s called « Whats happens after ». Can you tell us a little more about this ? When you recorded this song and where can we listen to it ?

Chris: It’s for a movie called Snow Angels, which was directed by David Gordon Green (who just did Pineapple Express). Its a pretty great movie. It didn’t do very well in the theaters but its coming out on dvd soon. the song isn’t really available anywhere as far as I know but I keep meaning to put it up on our myspace page or something. Its only maybe three or four minutes long but I think its sort of pleasant.
Making songs for some movies, is it something that you will keep doing ?
Chris: We would love to do more soundtracks. We’ve got nothing pending, though.
What is the future for Explosions In The Sky ? You told me, you will get some rest first….then you’ll get back working on new music ? You told me last time that it should be a little bit different than your old songs…Rnb music ?
Chris: Well, we’ve been working on new stuff these last few weeks. We’ve got a lot of bits and pieces and we’re pretty excited about how it’s sounding. It feels different but I guess still sounds like us. The writing might slow down for a bit as Mark’s wife is going to have a baby in about a month and he’s going to need some time getting used to things.
When the new album will be release ? I’m joking !
Chris: Sometime between 2009 and 2015.
Have you ever thought about releasing a dvd of the band containing a gig or something else ? Is it something you like or are planning to do?
Chris: No. Bella Union (our European label) wanted us to put out a live DVD but we had no interest. I can’t imagine anything more embarrassing.
And an Explosions In The Sky Best Of on cd ? Aww, that sounds not good. That would be stupid no ?Chris: Yeah, there won’t be a « best of » either. Maybe after we break up and we need some money or something.
Do you watch on tv the US Elections ?
Chris: A little bit. But, at this point, I’m pretty disgusted by the whole thing. Its just getting more and more ridiculous.
